We’ve spent the last month and half in the Bay Area where the cold weather consisted of a slight chill.
Now that we are back on the mountain there is a chilly wind blowing so hard as to threaten our electricity. I am frantically searching for boots, coats, mittens, and anything I can find to keep warm.
I am so grateful we purchased one of the rare homes on the mountain with central heating!
If you know me, you know that I always search for vintage clothing before biting the bullet and purchasing something new. I prefer the character and worn-in quality of vintage and it is often so well-made. Best of all, recycling vintage pieces into a wardrobe is an easy way to contribute to a clean Earth.
I was raised by a mother who is an antique dealer, and she was raised by an antique dealer as well. It is in my blood to hunt for used and vintage items. My all-time favorite places to hunt are thrift stores for clothing and estate sales for decor. Unfortunately, one can never guess what will be available at the local thrift shop or estate sale.
Having previously been a vintage clothing seller on Etsy, Etsy is always my first stop when I have something specific I am looking for. Now that we moved from sunny Los Angeles to a cold, wintery mountaintop, I’ve been searching for some vintage winter threads. Thought I’d bring you along on the hunt…
I am completely enamored with hand embroidery. These mittens are a vintage Native American craft with the prettiest floral, beaded embroidery!
Like many of you rock’n’roll babes, I still can’t get enough of Penny Lane and her wardrobe in Almost Famous. It’s all about fluffy shearling-lined jackets, boots, and mittens. Get your groupie-chic on and stay toasty warm.
There is nothing like a cozy, hooded, vintage sweater. I especially love the space-dyed look of the 70s belted sweaters. The hood and pink and gray tones of this one make it perfect!
If you feel like crocheting your own comfy winter sweater, Etsy also has some patterns available. The pattern below has been scanned and is available for immediate download. I love the pointed, elfin shape of the hood on these sweaters!
What is your favorite vintage clothing piece or accessory in your Winter wardrobe?
